The Need

Doctor, the people you choose to surround yourself with in your practice have an incalculable impact on the joy (or frustration!) you experience in practicing dentistry, as well as upon your ability to build the kind of practice you desire and to achieve the level of financial success you deserve.

If you have ever hired the wrong person to work for or with you, you know the cost to you personally in finding appropriate ways to manage the situation.  If you keep the person on as a member of your team, you and/or others on your team may experience stress, frustration, and lost productivity.  If you decide to terminate the employee, you will deal with the emotional unpleasantness of the situation and the resultant financial loss during the process of recruiting, hiring and training a new employee.  A recent study by the American Management Association found that the average cost to replace an employee is 30% of that employee’s annual salary.  And in some cases the costs are actually far higher!

Selection and development of highly skilled dental team members and of professional associates remains one of the most difficult challenges for the dentist/manager!  Research from business and industry has repeatedly demonstrated the effectiveness of using objective assessment measures to predict future performance more accurately than relying solely on interviewing and other subjective hiring strategies.

You can teach a person dental skills, but you must select people who have the talents and personality traits to be successful!
